Niedergesteln is a village full of history: It is not called the knights' village for nothing and the landmark of the village is the Gestelnburg, the ruins of which stand on the castle rock in an elevated position above the village.

Niedergesteln is located in the northern plain of the Rhone Valley, which offers a warm and dry climate in addition to many hours of sunshine. The municipality is part of the Westlich Raron district and the municipality of Raron is only a few minutes' drive from Niedergesteln. Accordingly, the journey to the Lonza town of Visp is not far.
